This Project could not happen or even reach this stage without the commitment and involvement of a number of key stakeholder organisations.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was executed by both CST and the University on 9 August 2006. Under the terms of this agreement both parties were to work together to investigate the feasibility of developing facilities for the University in association with the new stadium.
This relationship has been extremely successful and productive to date with CST and the University signing a Heads of Agreement in September 2007 which sees the University commit to approximately 14,000 sq m of space within the facility.
While the stadium is being developed on a multi-purpose basis, the main tenant and/or hirer of the stadium facilities will be ORFU. ORFU and CST have worked closely together to achieve a design which offers a world class facility to the legendary rugby team, but also a multi-purpose venue which will earn its living 24/7, 365 days a year.
NZRU withdrew international test matches from Dunedin for both 2006 and 2007. In recognition of the work Carisbrook Stadium Trust and its shareholders have undertaken to date, the NZRU have allocated a Tri-Nations Test Match to Dunedin in July 2008. This is a fantastic achievement for the Trust, and while the NZRU will not be directly linked to CST by any agreement, their support is critical to the operational feasibility of the venue.
In June 2007, Dunedin City Council (DCC) decided to continue funding investigations into the feasibility of the proposed multi- purpose Stadium. Under this agreement, DCC passed a number of resolutions, which saw the Trust develop the project through from the masterplan stage to developed concept design. Both DCC and CST worked closely together to progress to this stage of the project. In December 2007, following a presentation from the Trust to DCC, DCC decided to pass a number of recommendations, which allows the project to continue, providing a series of requirements can be satisfied.
In late June 2007, Otago Regional Council (ORC) agreed to undertake investigations into the possibility of providing funding in the region of $37.5 million for the proposed multi-purpose stadium in Dunedin. In making this funding proposal, the ORC have stated that they will defer any decisions until Dunedin City Council have confirmed their involvement.
To date the Carisbrook Stadium Trust’s relationship with ORC has been productive and fruitful, and we look forward to continued support from this potential shareholder.
The Otago Communtiy Trust has worked closely with Carisbrook Stadium Trust to help realise the opportunity the new Stadium development will bring to the region.
In supporting the multi-purpose venue the Otago Community Trust are providing the people of the region with a facility which will be available to a wide group of people for various activities and functions, and which will be a centrepiece of the community.
The Stadium Supporters Group was set up by a group of passionate, determined people who want to have a world class facility on there doorstep. They recognise the benefits of the University involvement and the multi-use aspect of the project and they decided to show there solidarity by setting up a supporters club.
