Dunedin gets Flashmobbed
Dunedin’s first ever ‘flashmob’ hit yesterday in the Meridian Mall when a group of 90 people suddenly converged on the mall and performed to surprised shoppers.
The Flashmob, performed to Atomic Kitten’s version of ‘Dancing in the Streets’, asked shoppers if they were ready for a brand new beat and sent an invitation across the nation for a chance for folks to meet.
Organised by the Forsyth Barr Stadium and Forsyth Barr to create excitement about the experience and atmosphere the new Stadium will provide, the Flashmob can be viewed on the social media platform, Youtube.
Guy Hedderwick, Commercial Director, Forsyth Barr Stadium said, “Creating the Flashmob was a bit of community fun and all about getting people to understand that with the energy, passion and commitment within us, anything is possible.
“When Forsyth Barr Stadium opens in August 2011, it’s the energy, passion and commitment of the people inside the Stadium that will make it a world class venue.”
Much of the 90 strong dance troop were staff from the Stadium’s head naming rights partner, Forsyth Barr.
Trish Oakley, head of marketing and product development, says “Our team really embraced the Flashmob and the opportunity to contribute to the Stadium vision, right from our Chairman, Sir Eion Edgar to our office assistant. The Stadium vision is about invigorating Dunedin, creating new opportunities and contributing to the sporting, social and cultural aspects of life in Otago.
“Forsyth Barr understood the Stadium vision early on, we are proud to partner with the Stadium and we are especially proud of the way our team have engaged with this Flashmob. We look forward to having a bit of fun with it over the coming weeks.”
